How to make dandelion “coffee”

Year after year, summer residents wage war with dandelions, which easily take over the entire plot. But some summer residents have learned to use the weed with benefit. Some as a component of fertilizer, others for medicinal purposes, and still others have shared a method for making coffee.

How to make coffee from dandelions

Weeds are dug up with the root, which is separated. The leaves are used for fertilizer or other purposes. The root is thoroughly washed from the ground.

The top layer is not touched, because the roots themselves will not be eaten, they will only be boiled.

The roots are cut into small pieces up to 4 mm thick.

The pieces of the root are fried in a dry frying pan until golden brown or baked in the oven. They should not be ground – the drink will be very bitter.

The most common method of preparation is using a Turk, in which the root is boiled together with cinnamon or ginger.

The color and aroma of the drink are rich. The sweet, nutty-coffee taste resembles chicory. It has a bitterness, but it is quite pleasant, like in grain Arabica, and there is no sourness.
