How to make the best multi-component soil for houseplants

Dry leaves, brown at the edges, fall off, turn yellow. These are signs that plants need to change the soil. Check it. Especially if the plants have not been repotted for a long time.

What to do

Remove the plant from the pot, inspect the root system. If the substrate around it has turned into a hard lump, it needs to be soaked, cleaned and the roots straightened. It will be best for the plant if you transplant it into a substrate with the following composition:

  • purchased universal soil based on top peat – 70%
  • leavening agent – 30%
  • charcoal – 5%

From the leavening agents, you need to add perlite. It will help provide air exchange for the plants. You also need to add zeolite to the mixture, the pebbles of which contain mineral nutrients.

Also add diatomite to the soil. It will help fight soil pests. By the way, charcoal is added to the mixture, because it is an excellent antiseptic for the same soil.

Don't be surprised, but that's not all. Experienced flower growers recommend adding foam glass. It helps the roots of plants not to drown in liquid if you overwater.

Such soil is suitable for almost all houseplants. It is loose and gives the roots freedom to grow, nutrition, and protection. The plants will thank you with a beautiful appearance and active growth.
