How to make thick condensed milk at home

Condensed milk, or as we used to say “condensed milk”, is easy to cook at home. This requires only 4 ingredients and a few hours of time.

For preparation, we take:

  • 1 l of fat milk (over 2.5% or homemade)
  • 500 g of sugar
  • 50 ml of water
  • 0.5 tsp. soda

Method of preparation:

Pour sugar into a saucepan with a thick bottom and pour water. Cook over low heat until the sugar dissolves and a liquid syrup forms.

Pour milk into the sugar, it should be at room temperature, wait until it boils.

Then add soda, mix thoroughly, reduce heat to low and cook for an hour.

The color will change from white to pale yellow, beige after an hour. Check the consistency, if the condensed milk is the right thickness for you, then finish the cooking process. And if you need a thicker mass, then cook for another 30-60 minutes. Stir occasionally so that it does not stick to the bottom.
