Rice and pasta are two common side dishes for meat, fish or vegetable dishes. They are easy to prepare, but sometimes instead of an appetizing look, real porridge turns out. These products contain starch. During cooking, it is released into the water and acquires a sticky consistency. To prevent pasta and rice from sticking together, forming a lump, you need to use one of the culinary recommendations.
Simple solutions
Pasta should be boiled in a large amount of water. If it is not enough, the stickiness of the starch will be stronger. Proportions are also important for rice. Pour 1.5 parts of water on one part of cereal.
When the rice and pasta are cooked, add a few teaspoons of vegetable oil. As an alternative, you can use olive oil. The side dish is recommended to be served immediately.
As soon as the pasta or rice is ready, they should be discarded in a colander and rinsed well with water. Then you can add butter, oil or sauce, gravy. It all depends on taste and plans. This method is especially suitable for the case when pasta and rice are needed to prepare other dishes (casseroles, salads).
Another little trick is to add lemon juice. The taste will change a bit, but then it will be tasty and original when combined with cheese or fish. For 2.5 liters of water for pasta, take 40 ml of juice. You can replace it with apple cider vinegar in the amount of 1 tbsp. The acid prevents the starch from breaking down in the water, so the side dish is perfect.
