How to protect potatoes and tomatoes from the Colorado potato beetle

If Colorado potato beetles have appeared in your garden, this is a bad signal: most likely the harvest of potatoes and tomatoes will not be the richest.

However, vegetables can be protected from the pest. And you should not resort to using chemicals for this.

A simple tool that many experienced summer residents have access to will help.

It is enough to simply “powder” the beds and plants with ashes. The result will be the death of dangerous insects.

Rules for “dusting” with ash

The first important nuance is the time of the procedure. It is advisable to perform it early in the morning: at a time when there is still dew on the plants.

The second point is related to the preliminary treatment with ash. It is desirable that the ash be passed through a sieve and without lumps: a good result is demonstrated by the sifted product.

The third nuance is to use a certain volume of ash. You need to focus on the indicator of 10 kilograms per 100 square meters.

It is worth noting that ash is effective not only as a means of combating the Colorado potato beetle. Other harmful insects that are dangerous for potatoes and tomatoes are also killed.
