A new study has shown that drinking regular tea can reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, which is considered one of the most common forms of dementia.
377,592 people with an average age of 58.5 years participated in the study. According to the findings of scientists, drinking one to six cups of the drink a day can reduce the risk of the disease by 16-19%. Those who drank small amounts of tea had a 25-29% lower risk of developing vascular dementia. According to the researchers, consumption of about three cups of tea per day showed the strongest protective effect.
“A significant association was found between tea consumption and a reduced risk of dementia after controlling for age, gender and ethnicity. “Even in the model with further adjustment of the main indicators, the protective effect remained significant,” the scientists noted. Clinical statistics show that maintaining optimal blood pressure, not smoking, not being overweight, eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly seem to play a role in preventing dementia.
