Bleaching of fruit trees is a classic procedure for protecting trees from frost cracks and sunburn. It is held every fall. However, not everyone knows that young seedlings cannot be bleached. This can cause chemical burns.
How to protect seedlings
Traditionally, lime is used to whiten trees. It is believed that it protects the best, and the white color does not allow the bark to warm up. However, lime is really dangerous for young trees. It is not recommended to use lime under the age of 3.
Protecting the bark and trunk can be done in another way. It is safe and will not harm young fruit trees. Instead of lime, you can use garden bandage.
It should be wound around the trunk and secured with a rope. Garden bandage is a safe material that has another useful function. In the spring, it can be impregnated with insecticides. This will protect fruit tree seedlings from insect pests.
