How to protect yourself from dementia: named simple activities that reduce the risk of the disease

Researchers have studied the effect of different types of physical and mental activity on the risk of dementia. They found that even the simplest activities, such as cleaning the house, significantly reduce the chances of developing senile dementia, regardless of genetic risk and family history.

As part of a recent study, scientists analyzed data from more than 500,000 people. individuals that were taken from the UK biobank. The participants were on average 56.5 years old at the beginning of the study.

At the beginning of the experiment, the participants filled out questionnaires indicating their physical activity, such as household chores, use of transport, visiting different places. Mental activity, including social contacts and use of electronic devices, was also recorded.

Over the next ten-year follow-up period, 5,185 people developed dementia. Based on this, the scientists found that those most likely to develop dementia tended to be older, male, have a history of hypertension or hyperlipidemia, lower socioeconomic status, and a higher body mass index.

< p>They also identified activities that reduce or increase the risk of dementia. It turned out that those who are most engaged in sports, household chores (cleaning, cooking, washing, etc.) and meet with family or friends every day have a 35%, 21% and 15% lower risk of senile dementia, respectively, compared to those who who pays less attention to these types of activities.

Scientists have associated visiting bars and watching TV with a higher risk of dementia.
