How to recognize a mental disorder in a loved one?

Many people believe that mental illness is a “fiction” and they not worth paying attention to. But this is not the case – mental illnesses are dangerous and must be treated. Moreover, the effectiveness of the therapy is very high and a number of diseases can be completely and quickly cured.

Mental disorders are much more common than many people think. In society, various unpleasant labels are attached to patients of psychiatrists, but in reality, no one is immune from mental disorders. According to statistics, the number of patients with depression and neurosis is currently increasing in many countries. And these are completely treatable diseases that cause a lot of problems if you do not pay attention to them.

Mental disorders are characterized by their permanence. If a person fell ill for a few days, but then returned to form, most likely, they do not have depression. Only a doctor can make a diagnosis, he will prescribe treatment and give advice that will help cope with the condition. But, according to experts, this is only half the battle – it is important that the patient reaches a doctor. And often in this regard, relatives should show the initiative.

What signs in behavior should alert you?

  • sharp changes in mood that become a common occurrence;
  • any previously uncharacteristic forms of behavior for a person – for example, a quiet person suddenly starts a fight, and a sociable friend withdraws into himself and becomes too silent;
  • manifestations of hallucinations. As a rule, this symptom can be noticed if a person begins to have conversations with an invisible interlocutor or with himself;
  • loss of interests, abandonment of hobbies, communication, sleep and appetite disturbances;
  • appearance of obsessive thoughts, repetitive actions;
  • emotional instability, which is not associated with acute experiences.
