How to reduce the harm of sedentary work

More and more evidence suggests that prolonged sitting is dangerous for your health, even if you exercise regularly. Scientists have found a way to reduce the harm from it.
A study by physiologists at Columbia University shows that just five minutes of walking every half hour during periods of prolonged sitting can offset some of the most harmful effects.
Doing so can significantly lower blood sugar levels and blood pressure. Additionally, this walking regimen affected how participants responded to large meals, reducing blood sugar spikes by 58%.
The researchers also periodically measured participants' mood, fatigue, and cognitive abilities during testing. All walking regimens, except for walking for one minute every hour, resulted in significant reductions in fatigue and improvements in mood. None of the walking regimens affected cognitive function.
