The easiest way to protect flower pots from your pet is to put them in an inaccessible place. Flowers can be placed on a warmed loggia or in one of the rooms where cats cannot enter without the owners' supervision. Sometimes it is possible to wean a cat from flower pots using strips of foil, “noisy” film or double-sided tape. Many cats are afraid of unfamiliar sounds and unpleasant sensations, so such an obstacle can reduce the pet's interest in indoor plants. If the cat likes to tear up the soil in pots, then a kind of obstacle can be created from toothpicks. A fence made of sharp sticks will wean the pet from the habit of digging in the ground, but will not protect against attempts to try a flower with its teeth or simply knock over the pot.

Cats get a lot of information about the world around them from their sense of smell. These animals do not like strong smells. There are special aerosols to scare away cats. A natural alternative can be dry citrus peels or garlic cloves. The method does not work with all cats, experts warn, and the scents have to be renewed regularly.

Sometimes a regular spray bottle is used to protect flowers from pets. Most cats do not like water. If the owner sprays water on a cat that has come too close to the flowers, it can quickly learn the connection between the unwanted behavior and the impromptu shower. This method will not work if the cat is indifferent to water or loves it.
