How long they will stay fresh depends on the correct storage of fruits and berries. Some fruits must be kept away from others, others are better left to ripen on the table before being placed in the refrigerator. There are also life hacks that will allow you to extend the shelf life of these healthy and delicious products.

Use lemon

To keep fruit or berries fresh longer, the culinary blog Recipe To Cook advises to put a few slices of lemon in the bag with them. For example, after buying strawberries, you need to pour them out of the container into a plastic bag and throw lemon slices in there. Then just close the bag and put it in the refrigerator.

Add vinegar

Wash the berries in a bowl with diluted vinegar (one part vinegar to three parts water) and let them dry completely on parchment paper. After that, the berries should be stored in a container lined with parchment, leaving the lid slightly open so that moisture can evaporate. Vinegar lowers the pH level on the surface of the berries and helps minimize bacteria and mold spores.

Give the fruit space

Many fruits such as bananas, peaches , apples, emit ethylene gas, which acts as a ripening hormone and can accelerate the softening process of other fruits.

Leave to ripen on the table

Mangoes, melons , apples and pears will continue to ripen if left on the table. But grapes, citrus fruits and berries must be stored in the refrigerator, otherwise they spoil quickly.

Allow the fruits to ripen, then send them to the refrigerator

Stone fruits , such as nectarines and mangoes, should be left to ripen in a bowl. Once they are soft enough, they should be moved to the refrigerator.

Do not store cut fruit

Due to air entering the pulp of the fruit they quickly lose their taste properties and can spoil even in the refrigerator.
