How to store tea so that it does not lose its beneficial properties
Tea is a whole culture. It is not by chance that so many rituals are gathered around this drink in all nations. Someone arranges elegant tea ceremonies, and someone has tea at a large table with various delicacies. Everyone can find a type and variety of tea that they like.
However, tea lovers should remember that it, like any other product, has its expiration date. Moreover, different types of tea can be stored for different times. Traditional loose leaf tea loses its beneficial properties when stored for a long time. And the taste of pu-erh only gets better with time: the longer this type of tea is aged, the better its quality and brighter taste.
Loose tea, as a rule, can be stored for no more than a year in a closed container, but in an open one – and even less. At the same time, the storage conditions must be observed. Therefore, experts advise to buy tea only from verified sellers, otherwise it will be difficult to talk about its quality at first.
When storing tea at home, you need to take into account that it itself is very sensitive to moisture, smells and various substances next to it . The main condition for storing tea is an airtight container. It is better if it is ceramic or glass, metal containers are less suitable for tea. If the tea will be stored for a short time, a few weeks, it can be left in a cardboard package.
What happens to tea when it expires? It loses quality. Over time, an oxidation process occurs, vitamins are destroyed, and essential oils evaporate. In addition, tea loses its aroma after long storage. It is unlikely that tea that has been stored for a long time will seriously harm the body, but there will definitely be no benefit from it.
