How to use grass left over from mowing
0
After mowing the grass, most summer residents have a question: where to put it. It's one thing when straw is needed, but it is not used on the site so often. Therefore, it is worth figuring out where to put the grass after mowing.
Composting
Cut grass can be safely composted, but there are some peculiarities.
Experts recommend sending it to the compost pit immediately after mowing. It is also advisable to mow in wet or damp weather.
The thing is that grass is a “green” group and is good compost. It saturates the compost with nitrogen and other useful components during the compost maturation process. If the grass is already dry, it is better not to use it for compost.
Green fertilizer
Mowed grass can be an excellent organic fertilizer. The main advantage is the high nitrogen content. Also in the composition you can find:
- potassium;
- iron;
- humic compounds and more.
Liquid fertilizer can be prepared from mowed grass. The most interesting thing is that the solution attracts earthworms, which will aerate the soil.
There are two cooking options:
- with water;
- with water and natural ingredients .
Mown grass must be finely chopped and poured with water. It is important to create an air gap of at least 15 centimeters. You can add to the mixture:
- nettle;
- dandelion;
- mother-and-stepmother;
- primrose and others .
You can also add:
- yeast;
- manure;
- EM drugs;
- li>
- dung;
- bird droppings.
All this should be thoroughly mixed and left to “ripen” in the sun. The capacity must be closed with a loose lid. It should be remembered about the air layer, which is necessary. The capacity is selected depending on the amount of mowed grass.
The ripening time is from 1 to 2 weeks. The solution should be stirred occasionally. In the process of ripening, the fertilizer will foam and darken, you should not be afraid of this, as it is a natural process.
During the fermentation process, an unpleasant aroma will appear, which will only intensify every day. Therefore, it is recommended to place the container in a place where guests are rarely present.
Mulching
Cut grass can be safely used for organic and inorganic mulch. But it should be understood that if the grass is short, it is better to abandon such a procedure. It is advisable to cover the soil with a layer of grass mulch 5-7 centimeters.
This will be enough for the soil and to preserve moisture.
It should also be remembered that over time the mulch layer will dry out and decrease. And here it is important to periodically update it with new portions. There is no point in removing grass mulch; it should be plowed into the soil during autumn digging.
To get rid of the unpleasant smell of a country toilet
An unobvious use of mowed grass is to use it as a neutralizer of various odors. It is enough to “pour” a small amount of grass into the cesspool. There is no reason to wait for a “wow” effect, but the result will be noticeable.
