Improper toilet seat increases your risk of bowel cancer

Except poor physical activity and excess weight, the cause of such a disease as bowel cancer can be improper sitting on the toilet while visiting the toilet, says doctor Deborah Lee.

Bowel cancer is becoming more common in society. According to Dr. Deborah Lee, a large number of epidemiological studies indicate that chronic constipation is a major risk factor for this disease. The doctor states that the problem of constipation is largely contributed to by improper sitting on the toilet.

The doctor said that more than 60 percent of the worldwide cases of bowel cancer are concentrated in countries where it is customary to sit on the toilet to defecate as if on a chair. Where there is a widespread tradition of squatting for this purpose, bowel cancer is not so relevant.

The doctor noticed that sitting in a chair-like position was more likely to cause constipation than squatting. Squatting is a natural position for clearing the digestive tract, allowing gravity to do most of the work of emptying the bowels. In addition, it helps the ileocecal valve (the valve between the small and large intestine) to close itself naturally – sitting like a chair prevents it from closing properly, which makes it difficult to achieve the necessary internal pressure in the intestine for the successful passage of stool.

Also, by squatting, the body moves the sigmoid colon slightly, removing the kink and therefore allowing it to communicate more freely with the rectum. When a person sits on the toilet as if on a chair, the puborectal muscle of the pelvic floor, which is used to maintain moderation, remains compressed. As a result, the intestines are put under a lot of stress, and this can increase the risk of developing colorectal cancer.

“Regular colon cleansing without straining is important to minimize the risk of cancer. To reduce its risk, avoid constipation,” the doctor stressed.

The doctor advises to use foods rich in fiber every day to prevent constipation – adults should consume about 30 grams. Too fatty, processed food should also be avoided.

Another important factor is regular physical exercises: they effectively stimulate the active transit of intestinal contents.
