In Kyiv, the historic Police Station of the beginning of the 20th century is being dismantled brick by brick

The building was built by architect Nikolaev for the Lukyanivskaya precinct, and its last “residents” were tax officials back in 2013: from at that time, the building was systematically set on fire and dismantled by unknown people.

Another architectural monument of Kyiv was under threat of destruction. It is about the Police Station, built in 1902, built by the architect Ipolit Nikolaev for the Lukyaniv Police Station. Unknown people are literally dismantling the building, the facade of which is hung with a banner, removing the load-bearing structures from the inside so that the building collapses on its own.

Olena Tereshchenko, a former member of the Kyiv City Council, reported on the critical situation on Facebook. She noted that the building at the street 91 Sichovyh Striltsiv Street, which was returned to the city after the intervention of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, was once again broken into by unknown persons from the inside. Neighbors informed the deputy about the works at the facility, who heard the noise and were not too lazy to make a call.

“Together with the police, they inspected the territory. All load-bearing structures, except for the walls of the “box”, were illegally demolished, so the building may collapse at any moment. I have no doubts that the historical building is being destroyed on purpose so that it “collapses on its own”, and another skyscraper will rise in its place”, Olena Tereshchenko noted in the post.

According to the ex-deputy, on the territory of the building during the inspection there was a man who said that he supposedly “guards the construction”. He did not have with him any documents for carrying out the works, nor even his own passport, and after a call from unknown persons, he began to say that, as they say, “nothing is being built here and everything was like that, and who hired him – he does not know”.

It should be noted that this very building was returned to the ownership of the city also with the direct participation of Ms. Tereshchenko, after the tax officials moved out of the building in 2013, and it was taken over by a Cypriot offshore company. Then windows and doors were dismantled from the building, and fires began to systematically break out – but thanks to numerous appeals by deputies and the position of the Kyiv City Council, it was managed to be preserved.

Dmytro Perov, the capital's conservationist, spoke in more detail about the Police Station building on social networks. He wrote that the building was built according to the individual project of the architect Ippolit Nikolayev for the Police Station “Luk'yanivskyi Precinct”. In Soviet times, the militia continued to be stationed here, but during independence, the tax office was moved here,” Perov said.

Olena Tereshchenko says that she turned to the police with a statement about the crime, and the investigative and operative group accepted her for work. Now the investigators will decide whether to open criminal proceedings based on the application.

The building does not have a protected status, but it is on the “Klitschko list” regarding the ban on demolishing buildings over 100 years old.
