The orchid grows beautifully in a substrate that can be prepared according to the advice of florists. Let's not say that it's budget-friendly and profitable, but you need to create the best conditions for the orchid. Only in this case you will be able to see its long flowering.
How to prepare the substrate
The first thing that an orchid likes is pine bark. The thickest one is needed. You can collect it even in the forest under your feet. Make sure the bark is clean and free of pests and rot.
Orchids need sphagnum moss. You can buy it in the store or find it in the autumn forest. First, you will need to keep it on a wire rack to dry out excess moisture, and then transfer it to the refrigerator for storage, if you have a spare.
Charcoal charcoal will also work. It is recommended to take larger fractions. Fine and fine coal is not needed, because it will not be suitable for the substrate.
And one more component that cannot be dispensed with. We are talking about keramsite with small granules. When you have all the components ready for use, then mix them in a proportion where the majority is bark (80%), then moss (20%), and coal and expanded clay will be in the smallest amount – 15% and 10%.
