The study showed that according to indicators of competitiveness women are not much different from men. However, women prefer games in which they can share their winnings with others.
Researchers from the University of Arizona found out that women do not differ from men in terms of competitiveness. The fairer sex participates in one or another competition as often as the stronger sex, but they simply like to share their achievements and prizes more. Volunteers were invited to take part in solving mathematical problems in exchange for rewards.
238 people took part in the experiment. All of them were divided into men and women. Everyone had a choice: get a guaranteed prize for a correct result or a bigger prize if he turns out to be among the best according to the results of all the tests. Finally, there was also the possibility of winning a big prize to share with the losers.
It turned out that 60% of women entered this competition if they were given the opportunity to share the future winnings. If they were faced only with the possibility of receiving a big prize, which is called one-person, then no more than 35% of women were interested in this competition.
In contrast, 51% of men chose the “winner gets everything” formula. And 52.5% agreed to share their winnings with others.
