Increased risk of cancer: scientists call the most dangerous type of drink in this regard

Scientists state that a certain type of drink increases the risk of developing a number of different types of cancer – in terms of carcinogenicity, they consider alcoholic drinks to be the most dangerous.
According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), there is a “strong scientific consensus” that drinking alcohol is associated with an increased risk of cancer. Alcohol is a generic term for ethanol or ethyl alcohol, a chemical found in alcoholic beverages. It is produced by the fermentation of sugars and starches by yeast.
“Available evidence shows that the more alcohol a person drinks – especially the more alcohol they drink regularly over a long period of time – the higher their risk of developing cancer.” , – NCI experts warn.
Experts emphasize that even those people who drink no more than one portion of alcohol per day have a moderately increased risk of certain types of cancer. But this risk becomes most significant in cases where alcohol is abused: women drink four or more servings in one sitting, men – five or more servings.
Oncologists specify that the connection between consumption of alcoholic beverages and the development of certain types of cancer.
- Head and neck cancer.
- Esophagus cancer.
- Liver cancer.
- Breast cancer.
- Colorectal (intestinal) cancer.
How can alcohol cause cancer? Researchers explain that acetaldehyde is produced when alcohol is broken down. Acetaldehyde can damage cells and can also prevent cells from repairing damage. Also, alcohol can also increase the levels of certain hormones, such as estrogen and insulin. Hormones are chemical messengers, their higher levels can cause cells to divide more often, which increases the likelihood of developing cancer.
