Is it necessary to wait for the end of flowering dahlias in autumn before digging?
1
There is a dispute between many owners of dahlias on the site: whether or not to wait for the end of flowering. On the one hand, there is a great desire to continue admiring the beautiful flowers, and on the other, it is time to think about preparing for winter.
Expert advice
Experienced gardeners do not recommend waiting for frosts and severe cold. There is no need for this. On the contrary, while there is warm and dry weather in October, it is necessary to dig up dahlias.
Retreat from the bush by 40-50 cm and dig up the bush from different sides. Get it off the ground. Trim the stem and leaves, but remember to leave 10 cm. All the roots are small, which also need to be cut around the rhizome with secateurs.
Look carefully at the rhizome from all sides. If there is damage, treat them with green. Dry the rhizomes for 3-4 days at +20 degrees. It is better to do it indoors.
The prepared rhizomes can be moved to storage. We remind you that the microclimate there should be as follows: 60-70% humidity and temperature +3-4 degrees.
