Is it possible to plant a plum tree next to a cherry tree?

It has been repeatedly noticed that the correct neighborhood of fruit or vegetables crops are affected by their yield. Well-chosen “neighbors” increase the fertility of plants, otherwise it means fading and death of trees or bushes.

Details

Cherry is considered not the best “neighbor” for many crops. The tree has a powerful root system, which lies deep underground and suppresses the plants growing nearby.

Plum and cherry create a good tandem, so these trees can be planted literally close to each other. Good neighborliness is due to the fact that both of these crops have the same requirements for growing conditions.

Both trees prefer loose soil with a neutral level of acidity. Cherry and plum are light-loving, so they do not grow well if there is a shading factor nearby.

The most important condition for this union is the root system. They do not compete for soil resources, the soil is depleted slowly.

The yield is not affected by the proximity of crops, but there is a significant disadvantage. Both trees are prone to almost the same diseases and are also attacked by the same pests. This means that if a cherry is sick, a plum will also be infected, and vice versa.
