Is it true that nuggets and candy cause gastrointestinal disease?

McMaster University professor Neeraj Narula has found that consuming large amounts of highly processed foods can increase the risk of Crohn's disease.
Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Scientists consider ultra-processed foods to be products with chemical modifications, artificial flavors or colors.
These include, for example, chicken nuggets, sodas, sauces, some breakfast cereals, industrially prepared breads and candies.
The researchers also warned that in addition to Crohn's disease, such products carry other health risks, including diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.
