Scientists explain why artichokes are considered a product of longevity – this vegetable is effective in the prevention of dangerous pathologies.
“Thanks to its anti-cancer properties, the ability to lower cholesterol levels and the presence of compounds that reduce age-related diseases, eating artichokes can be your way to live a longer and healthier life,” say experts.
In particular, the vegetable is rich in phytonutrients such as quercetin, which provide prevention of many health risks, including cancer, heart disease, liver dysfunction, high cholesterol and diabetes, they say. Several years ago, the United States Department of Agriculture conducted a large study that analyzed the antioxidant content of the most commonly consumed foods. To the surprise of many, artichokes are among the top four vegetables in terms of their presence in their composition.
“Artichokes contain many powerful antioxidants of the polyphenolic type, which can contribute to the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer, breast cancer, leukemia” , the researchers said at the time.
In turn, a study by scientists from the Georg August University in Germany showed that the phytochemicals contained in this vegetable help block the secretion of cancer agents, thereby suppressing angiogenesis, associated with cancer.
