Look at the labels: four labeling elements that must be on all products

In Ukraine, the requirements for labeling food products during martial law have been simplified. However, there is information that must be indicated on food labels.

During the period of martial law in Ukraine, simplifications are in place for food manufacturers regarding product labeling. This is due to forced changes in recipes due to the shortage or absence of necessary raw materials.

In March 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted Resolution No. 186 “Some Issues of Food Labeling under Martial Law”. The purpose of the document is to ensure the country's food security and apply a risk-based approach in implementing state control over food products, feed and other goods.

Despite the simplification, the following information remains mandatory on food product labeling:

  • name of food product
  • quantity of product in established units of measurement
  • minimum shelf life or “use by” date
  • data on allergens – ingredients or materials that cause allergic reactions or intolerance
