Love of dairy products leads men to prostate cancer

Active consumption of dairy products by men is closely related to their susceptibility to prostate cancer – this is evidenced by research data.

It is common knowledge that dairy products are an important part of a healthy, balanced diet. However, researchers warn: the love of dairy products leads men to prostate cancer.

“Approximately one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime. There are certain factors such as smoking and obesity that increase the likelihood of this disease. A high consumption of dairy products can also be a risk factor,” the scientists stated.

The authors of the project would perform a meta-review: they reviewed 33 large studies that analyzed the relationship between the consumption of dairy products and prostate cancer . Scientists found that, in general, the risk of prostate cancer was higher in men who consumed 400 grams of dairy products per day or more.

“Prostate cancer risk was increased with consumption of all dairy products, including milk, cheese and oil,” they reported.

It is emphasized that the study was observational only and did not offer an explanation for the trend. At the same time, the organization dealing with the problems of this disease, Prostate Cancer UK, informs that the cause of men's predisposition to cancer may be an excess of calcium, which is created by too much “milk” consumed in food.

According to experts of the organization, men should not consume more than three servings of dairy products per day. A portion is, for example, one small jar of yogurt, a glass of milk or a small piece of 30 grams of cheese.

What symptoms may indicate prostate cancer?

  • The need to urinate frequently, waking up at night.
  • Trouble starting to urinate.
  • Straining during urination.
  • Weak flow urine.
  • A feeling that the bladder is not completely emptied.
  • Traces of blood in the urine or semen.
