Many people's favorite foods contribute to the development of Crohn's disease

Canadian researchers have found that people who eat a lot of ultra-processed foods are more likely to develop Crohn's disease.
Crohn's disease is a lifelong condition characterized by inflammation of the digestive tract and is classified as IBD, an inflammatory bowel disease. World statistics show that more and more people suffer from this pathology every year. Scientists state that such an increase in its cases is due to the fact that the diet of the general public is becoming more and more “unnatural”: the proportion of industrially processed food in their daily diet is increasing, displacing home-cooked food made from natural products.
New evidence of this is the finding of Canadian researchers who found that people who eat a lot of ultra-processed foods are more prone to developing Crohn's disease.
Experts from McMaster University analyzed data from over a million people collected over two years. After analyzing their habits, the researchers concluded that regular consumption of processed foods negatively affects the intestinal microflora.
“Processed foods shift the intestinal microbiome towards dysbiosis. This causes the immune system to react to certain microorganisms in the intestines and trigger an inflammatory pathway that leads to Crohn's disease.”
The study itself showed that many people's favorite foods can contribute to inflammation in the intestines: breakfast cereals, chicken nuggets, ham, chips, pizza, sweets. In general, scientists concluded, a diet high in red meat and low in fiber, zinc, and potassium is associated with the development of Crohn's disease.
Symptoms of Crohn's disease. Without treatment, the unpleasant symptoms of Crohn's disease can be constant or occur periodically.
The main signs of the pathology are:
- diarrhea that occurs suddenly
- pain and cramps in the abdomen (most often in the lower right part of the abdomen)
- blood in the stool
- fatigue
- weight loss
- depressed emotional state.
