Matthiola is a new discovery in the fight for potato harvest

In the last decades, growing potatoes has become problematic. All the fault of the Colorado potato beetle. Chemicals are not an option for edible vegetables. Suddenly there was a good and fragrant alternative. This is a flower that few people plant in their gardens.

A non -fabricated way to protect potatoes

grow a pure potato crop without the use of chemicals is the dream of all gardeners. There are many poisonous plants that kill the guest. But they are harmful to humans. Other ways, like wormwood, tansy, red pepper, are effective after repeated use, but the beetle adapts to all smells over time.The plant has the second name – night violet. The gardeners noticed that where Matiola grows, there sharply decreases the number of beetles, the soil becomes loose and the potatoes grow better. Now it is used in different ways:

• planted on potatoes in the aisle, the frequency of planting does not matter, at the discretion of gardeners. In the evening and at night, the plant begins to secrete aroma that is not tolerated by Colorado potato beetles and leave the potato area. The smell radius covers at least a meter;
• make a spraying solution. To do this, tear the terrestrial part of the flower, insist in water, preferably heated to 50 degrees. The ratio of fluid and plant does not matter: the more flowers, the more effective the result, and the amount of water is determined by the size of the potato area. Soap or starch is added for greater adhesive.

Please note! It is not necessary to plant Matthiol in each row, given the radius. It will be enough for one row of flowers for every four potato beds or use a chess planting method.
