Neuroticism is a personality trait – neurotics tend to interpret any extraneous circumstances as threatening or dangerous, they perceive the world around them with negativism and suspicion, they are very nervous about any little things. People with a high level of neuroticism often feel such emotions as fear, anxiety, sadness, anger, which are also very concentrated.
Scientists examined more than a thousand men, whose average age was 53 years. The researchers came to the conclusion that “men prone to neuroticism experience more stress and are exposed to an increased risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes at a younger age”. strong sex was associated with a high probability of having six or more risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases. Such factors include, for example, hypertension, high levels of sugar and cholesterol, elevated levels of inflammatory markers in the blood, and obesity. According to scientists, a similar pattern appears in men of different age groups, both in 30-year-olds and among 60-year-olds.
Scientists say that neurotic men suffer greatly from the effects of stress – for them this is a more important risk factor for losing health than for people of other composition. In their case, anxiety, fear, and emotions easily become uncontrollable, negatively affecting the functioning of the body and disrupting everyday life.
