Men warned about dangerous consequences of baldness treatment

The baldness pill “Propecia” can cause dangerous side effects in men, such as impotence, depression, suicidal thoughts, and decreased libido. Urologist Edward Schaeffer warned about this in an interview with the podcast The Peter Attia Drive.

Schaeffer noted that negative consequences after taking finasteride, which is contained in baldness pills, are detected in approximately one in ten men. According to him, most patients report problems with potency and mental disorders. “The duration of symptoms varies greatly. Some people stop taking the medication and recover a few weeks after washing off the drug. But I know those who have these symptoms forever,” the doctor said.

Schaeffer added that Propecia and other similar drugs were initially used to treat prostate diseases, but it soon became clear that after taking them, patients began to grow hair. According to the doctor, this effect is achieved because finasteride prevents testosterone from converting to dihydrotestosterone, high levels of which provoke hair loss. The same mechanism, continued Schaeffer, also triggers negative symptoms in the body.
