These supplements and vitamins come in all shapes and sizes, and are designed to give our diets an extra boost. However, recent studies have shown that excessive intake can be problematic.
The effects of vitamin supplements over time.
Researchers have found a link between supplement consumption and an increased risk of cancer. Scientists are not sure why this happens at the molecular level, but evidence suggests that people who take more supplements than necessary have a higher risk of developing cancer.
Dietary supplements are pills and powders containing minerals, herbs, or other compounds that are used to improve and supplement the diet.

Despite this data, people should not stop taking vitamins:
