More than half of “healthy” foods are high in fat, salt, or sugar

More than half of the products sold with the label “healthy” were found to be high in fat, salt and/or sugar. The number of analyzed products included, among others, dried and fried legumes. Some were found to contain more salt than seawater.

Despite being lower in fat, saturated fat and calories than crisps, they contained more than 43% salt.

Hummus was the saltiest, as well as chips with chili and lemon flavor, although they were labeled “40% less fat, vegan, gluten-free.” Legumes exceeded the norm of salt by five times.

As Sonya Pombo, head of Action on Salt, notes, the use of legumes is important. However, you need to pay attention to the snacks sold in stores with the labels “healthy food”.

In most cases, the information on the number of calories, fat or flavor additives does not match the actual content of these substances.
