Mykola's children can be called not only Mykolaivych, the philologist surprised with another option

The Ukrainian language has its own peculiarities of pronunciation and spelling of patronymic names. It is easy to make mistakes with some, while others can have two correct forms.

As explained by Master of Philology Natalya Sorokina on behalf of Mykola, you can form two feminine forms in the paternal style and two masculine ones. The first is well known to everyone, and the familiar one is Mykolaivna/Mykolayovych.

And the second is Mykolaivna/Mykolovych. Although it sounds very exotic and seems strange, according to the philologist, these are also correct patronymic names.

However, Ukrainians did not accept the unusual option. They also began to form their own patronymic names by analogy.
