When the liver becomes sick, the whole body suffers, but its damage is often remains unnoticed, because at first it does not cause noticeable and strong symptoms.
Doctors from Germany named several common causes of liver disease.
High doses of paracetamol. The liver removes toxins from the body – this applies not only to alcohol, but also to drugs. Frequent intake of potent drugs can damage it. Doctors stress that you should never take medication off-label, or for longer or more often than recommended.
“If you have symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, see your doctor. A drug that damages the liver in large doses is, for example, paracetamol.”
Too much fruit. Studies show that fruit sugar (fructose) can make the liver sick, increasing the risk organ obesity.
Overweight. Excess fat in the body often means that fat is also present in the liver. In some cases, fatty liver disease progresses unexpectedly quickly, turning into cirrhosis.
Alcohol. For the sake of liver health, it is better for men not to drink more than two glasses of wine or beer a day (24 grams alcohol). For women, whose liver is more sensitive, the limit is considered to be half of this amount.
How to recognize a diseased liver? The following signs should be treated with suspicion.
