Experts advise against white polished rice as a side dish due to its ability to cause blood sugar spikes.

NHS (National Health Service) staff state that a properly prepared diet helps to effectively control blood sugar levels, prevent the development or worsening of type 2 diabetes. Experts emphasize that sugar, quickly digestible carbohydrates, and salt should be kept to a minimum.

Doctors have drawn attention to the fact that white rice is in demand among modern people – side dishes made from it are extremely popular in catering establishments and at home. Meanwhile, this product is able to cause sharp jumps in blood sugar.

According to the study, which analyzed the data of more than 1.3 million people from 21 countries, collected over ten years, the rate of development of type 2 diabetes increased significantly in the countries of South Asia, where rice is the main consumed dish. At the same time, it was established that on average, local residents consumed about 630 grams of rice daily, but the amount of white rice was 128 grams.

According to scientists, different varieties of rice are in demand in cooking today, and lovers of this product should be aware about the number of carbohydrates and the glycemic index of rice side dishes. You should not consume more than 60 grams of carbohydrates in one meal.

In the presence of prediabetes, diabetes, white rice should be avoided, as it can provoke spikes in blood sugar, experts summarized.
