Doctors from the UK have named products that can increase the risk of stomach cancer.
Symptoms of stomach cancer can be difficult to detect, as the initial signs are easily confused with less serious conditions. Common symptoms can include persistent sexual dysfunction and heartburn, increased gas formation. Although it is not entirely clear what exactly causes malignant neoplasms, there are a number of risk factors associated with the disease.
According to recent studies, eating pickled vegetables potentially increases the likelihood of developing the disease by 50%. The likely explanation is their high salt content.
The discovery follows an 11-year study conducted by scientists at the National Cancer Research Institute of Japan, in which 40,000 middle-aged people participated. “This study shows strong associations of stomach cancer with the consumption of highly salty Japanese foods, including fish and pickled vegetables.
Limiting the consumption of white food is also important for reducing the likelihood of developing hypertension and cardiovascular disease,” the doctors noted.
Additional undesirable factors include: overweight or obesity, insufficient consumption of fruits and vegetables, and a diet high in processed foods. This also includes alcohol abuse and smoking.
