Named juice that is particularly useful for health
Juices from vegetables and berries, if they do not contain sugar, preservatives and dyes, are a very useful and convenient part of a healthy diet. They can completely replace unhealthy drinks such as sugary soda. One berry juice stands out for its benefits among others.
British nutritionist Rob Hobson told Netdoctor about the many benefits of cranberry juice. One glass of this drink contains more than half of the daily value of vitamin C, which is needed to make proteins and rid the body of free radicals.
Much of the heart-healthy benefits of cranberries are due to their impressive antioxidant content. Cranberries are rich in flavanols, which are a type of polyphenol. Their level in juice is lower than in fresh berries. “However, there is some research linking cranberry juice to a reduction in heart disease risk factors, including an increase in good cholesterol,” explains Hobson. Cranberry also increases the stiffness of arteries, which is useful for coronary heart disease.
Cranberry juice helps in the prevention of intestinal infections. “One study showed that 500 ml of cranberry juice a day can significantly reduce infection with the bacterium H. pylori, which causes peptic ulcer disease,” the nutritionist said.
Cranberries also contain a compound called ursolic acid, which may help protect brain cells from damage or degeneration after a stroke. Moreover, regular consumption of fruit or vegetable juice reduces the risk of developing dementia, Hobson notes.
