Scientists state that one of the key and at the same time affordable ways to prolong life is physical activity: it is recommended to regularly spend 15 minutes a day on it.
Is there evidence that exercise and movement can extend people's lives by slowing the aging process? Yes, they are. A Harvard University study, to which the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) appeals, showed that “15 minutes of daily physical activity can increase life expectancy by three years”. , state that physical activity in this amount helps reduce mortality from all causes by 14 percent.
“A daily commitment to movement is critical to reaping health benefits. Physical exercises reduce the tendency to heart attacks, heart failure, peripheral artery diseases and arrhythmias. You not only feel better, but also function better,” said the cardiologist, commenting on the results.
According to the expert, when talking about physical exercises, scientists also mean activities of a non-sports format. Thus, you can choose a type of activity that you like more and engage in it. Here is a list of activities that can also count as a daily workout:
- brisk walking,
- dancing,
- swimming,
- cycling,
- playing tennis,
- working with a lawnmower,
- roller skating,
- jogging,
- jumping rope,
- pilates,
- squats,
- washing the car,
- climbing the stairs.

It is noteworthy that the study of the European Society of Cardiology also demonstrated the life-prolonging benefits of 15 minutes of daily physical activity. A group of specialists led by Dr. David Hupin concluded that “people who exercised at least 15 minutes each day had a 22 percent lower risk of death.”
This conclusion is supported by observational data from a group of 1011 people (they were observed for 12 years) and a group of 122,417 people aged (on average) 60 years (they were observed for 10 years). The results of observations show that the more physical activity older people practice, the better for their health. Scientists postulate that “regular physical activity generally affects health better than any treatment”.
