The risk of developing colorectal cancer (intestinal cancer) increases with a certain popular product. This was told by an oncologist, a surgeon.
According to him, we are talking about red meat. In his Instagram, the specialist refers to research by the Dana-Farber Institute of Oncology in the USA.
In total, scientists analyzed DNA data from normal and tumor tissue samples of 900 patients with colorectal cancer. All participants provided information about their diet and lifestyle for several years before oncology.
The analysis showed the presence of DNA damage in both tumor and normal tissue. The lesions were much more common in people who ate a lot of red meat in any form. The consumption of poultry meat, fish and other factors related to lifestyle were not important.
“Patients with the highest levels of DNA damage had a 47% higher risk of dying from colorectal cancer “, the doctor added.
The oncologist also reminded that colorectal cancer is one of the most common oncological diseases, and its development is not only influenced by diet and lifestyle. Therefore, the specialist recommends that every person be screened after reaching the age of 45.
