Experts state that lentils are one of the best side dishes that can quickly reduce high cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
Experts recommend replace popular side dishes in the form of mashed potatoes or boiled white rice with lentils. This type of legume is much more useful for the state of the cardiovascular system – thanks to this side dish, it is more effectively freed from excess cholesterol and sugar.
Scientists explain that lentils contain a large amount of folic acid, vegetable protein, fiber – this complex activates cholesterol reduction processes. It has been found that one daily serving of lentils can quickly reduce the level of low-density lipoprotein (the so-called “bad” cholesterol) by 5 percent.
In addition, lentils are high in protein and fiber, which slows down digestion, and together with it inhibits the release of sugar. Consumption of this side dish can reduce the blood glucose content by up to 35%, the researchers reported.
They reminded that too high levels of sugar and cholesterol in the blood threaten dangerous consequences, including the development of type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, heart attack, stroke . At the same time, violations may not manifest themselves in any way until the indicators reach critical values.
