Named supplement that rids the body of excess sugar
Symptoms of diabetes can be easily overlooked, doctors are sure. They often remain “hidden”, but the disease itself is serious and requires special attention in order not to worsen the situation.
In diabetes, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or the cells are not able to absorb it. Insulin, in turn, regulates the level of sugar in the blood, and without such a restraining effect, it only continues to rise. Excess sugar in the blood can damage blood vessels, which often leads to complications such as heart disease.
To compensate for impaired insulin production, doctors advise to follow a diet. Certain foods have been shown to mimic the effects of insulin, thereby helping to stabilize blood sugar levels.
Research shows that alpha-lipoic acid, also known as ALA, is particularly good at this task. It is an organic compound found in foods such as spinach, broccoli and red meat, but it is also taken as a dietary supplement.
