Correctly selected diet – one of the “three whales” of longevity, according to experts. It became known which well-known and cheap foods can strengthen the immune system and protect the body from diseases.
Robert Graham, MD and chef says “the first step in strengthening your immune system is maintaining a healthy, balanced a diet rich in whole grains, fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, pre- and probiotics, and high-quality protein.” He says there are certain foods that should be eaten as often as possible.
Asparagus is a dietary prebiotic, which is a type of indigestible fiber called oligosaccharides. Dr. Graham advises to “think of (prebiotics – “editorial”) as “food or fertilizer” for “healthy gut bacteria”. He emphasizes that prebiotics work by improving the immune system by increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines while decreasing pro-inflammatory cytokines. Other good sources of prebiotics include fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains such as wheat, oats, and barley.
“Broccoli contains antioxidant polyphenols that are important for the immune system,” says Dr. Graham. He explains that broccoli contains a compound called sulforaphane glucosinolate, which is a disease-fighting, immune-boosting agent. The list also includes shiitake mushrooms, chicken soup, ginger, citrus fruits, garlic, Greek yogurt and cauliflower.
