Some contain polyunsaturated fats, which directly lower LDL (low-density lipoprotein, the so-called “bad” cholesterol). Some products contain plant compounds sterols and stanols, which block the body's absorption of cholesterol.
In particular, experts named vegetables and fruits as particularly effective in reducing high cholesterol levels.
Apples. Scientists state that “the consumption of two whole apples with the skin per day helps to lower the level of cholesterol in the blood and prevent a heart attack or stroke.”
“Apples, oranges, carrots, peaches, grapes , strawberries, citrus fruits – they all contain this pectin, which is a type of soluble fiber that lowers the level of LDL-cholesterol,” experts explain.
Beans. Fresh green or dried, beans are especially rich in soluble fiber, which helps lower high cholesterol. Its digestion takes time, as a result, the feeling of satiety lasts longer after eating. Thus, beans are a healthy food for those who are important to reduce high cholesterol and for those who need to lose weight.
