Named the ideal product for maintaining slimness after 50 years

Whole grain oatmeal and others types of whole grains must be present in the diet of people over the age of 50, scientists believe.

According to the results of the study, whole grain oats are an ideal product for maintaining slimness after 50 years. Scientists also recommend using other whole grain cereals for this purpose – especially for women.

“At the age of fifty, whole grain is ideal for maintaining a healthy weight and fighting extra pounds,” the Journal of Nutrition quotes researchers.

The authors of the work, specialists from Tufts University, analyzed the data of more than 3,000 people to find out how the consumption of whole grains (oats, brown rice and others) and refined refined grains (pasta, bread of their white flour) affected their body. Consumption of these foods has been correlated with parameters such as waist size, blood pressure numbers, blood sugar levels, triglycerides and blood cholesterol levels.

The data showed that a lower consumption of products from refined grains is associated with a lower tendency to experience negative changes in the above-mentioned parameters with age. In other words, the study participants were better able to maintain their waistlines and healthy blood pressure as they got older, and avoid elevated cholesterol if they ate fewer foods made from refined grains and flours and more of a variety of whole grains.

“The results show that eating whole grains as part of a healthy diet effectively helps to keep slim and not gain weight as you age, as well as maintain close to normal levels of blood sugar and blood pressure. As a result, it gives a pronounced effect on the prevention of heart diseases,” the experts stated.

According to them, unlike processed, refined grains, whole grains contain fiber, which keeps the feeling of fullness for a long time, as well as antioxidants, magnesium , potassium, which have a positive effect on the condition of blood vessels and blood pressure. Scientists recommend consuming two to three servings of whole grain products per day. One serving is about one slice of whole grain bread, half a cup of grains.
