Named the main vitamin for gut health

It is known that vitamin D is necessary for the proper functioning of the body. It strengthens immunity, supports the health of bones, muscles, as well as the heart and blood vessels. Recent studies have also shown that vitamin D is associated with gut health, which is often called the main organ of longevity.
In an experiment conducted with the participation of 80 women, it was found that after 12 weeks of taking 50,000 IU of the vitamin significantly improved the diversity of the gut microbiota.
It is important to note that the study participants consumed 50,000 IU of the vitamin per week, not per day. According to generally accepted norms, an adult should receive at least 15 μg of the substance every day (600 IU). For people over 70 years of age, the norm increases to 20 mcg (800 IU).
The study also revealed an improvement in kidney and liver function, which is associated with an increased level of calcium in the blood (the body uses vitamin D to mineral absorption).
The presence of a diverse microbiota in the intestines is of key importance for overall health. For example, in a study published in Frontiers of Immunology, scientists found a clear link between the microbiome and the body's immune system, finding that adequate levels of vitamin D are a key marker of the health of both functions.
