Cardiovascular diseases are one of the main causes of premature death. Among the best ways to protect against them are physical exercises. However, the question of what minimum level of activity is sufficient for good health has remained open until now.
Now a new study published in the journal Heart has shown that just 20 minutes a day of moderate activity is enough, to reduce the risk of heart disease in people aged 70-75.
Researchers from the University of Padua in Italy tracked heart disease among 3,000 participants over the age of 65 over two decades, as well as their levels of physical activity.< /p>
Moderate physical activity included walking, bowling and fishing, while vigorous activity included gardening, working out at the gym, cycling, dancing and swimming. The results showed that the benefit of exercise was greater in people aged 70-75 than in older volunteers.
However, the scientists noted that in the study they relied on the memory of the participants, and their activity was assessed subjectively. There were no exact data on the number of exercises that the volunteers performed at a certain age.
