You should not buy and drink cheap tea – product tests show that many cheap varieties contain substances that are dangerous to health.

Experts warn that low-quality teas may contain traces of pyrrolizidine alkaloids – toxic substances of plant origin. These toxins are produced by wild plants to protect against predators: for example, similar compounds are found in wormwood. During mass production, such plants sometimes grow imperceptibly between tea bushes and are accidentally processed during production.

If tea containing particles of pyrrolizidine alkaloids is consumed in large quantities, this increases the risk of poisoning, liver damage, cancer, – reports the magazine Freundin (Germany).

In its publication, experts said that undesirable levels of these toxins were found in cheap types of tea – for example, chamomile, green.

Also, cheap teas were found pesticides, metals (lead, aluminum), residues of mineral oils. Researchers recommend buying tea from proven manufacturers.
