Not only onions and garlic: foods that make bad breath repulsive

Besides the particularly smelly onions and garlic, there are other foods that can cause bad breath – did you know about them?

Statistically, bad breath is most often caused by the use of certain products. Here's what can worsen your breath, in addition to the well-known provocateurs of repulsive “aroma” – onions and garlic.

Coffee. Coffee is known to have a number of beneficial properties, but caffeinated beverages can make your breath stale. Coffee reduces the production of saliva, which is necessary for natural cleaning of the oral cavity and washing away any bacteria. In addition, it contains sulfuric and acidic compounds, which, if stuck in the mouth, can spoil its smell for a long time.

Doctors' advice: to avoid the problem, you need to drink water after every cup of coffee.

Dairy products. Eaten cheese or ice cream, drank a glass of milk – all this can also cause bad breath. Its appearance is explained by the fact that the bacteria living on the surface of the tongue willingly feed on amino acids, which are contained in dairy products. The unpleasant smell is a product of the vital activity of these microorganisms.

Alcohol.Like coffee, it also dries out the mouth. Drying of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity contributes to the growth of bacteria that are not washed out due to lack of saliva. This is another reason why alcohol should be washed down with plenty of water.

Fish. It contains a compound called trimethylamines, which can linger in the mouth and give off bad breath. Some people suffer from a condition known as trimethylaminuria, which “rewards” them with an unpleasant fishy odor that can come and go. It is believed that the incurable condition is caused by defective genes that a person inherits from his parents.
