Not only soldiers killed during the war will be buried at the memorial cemetery
Approximately 1.5 million citizens will have the right to be buried at the National Military Memorial Cemetery (NVMK) after the end of the war.< /b>
This was reported by the deputy director of the state institution “National Military Memorial Cemetery” Yaroslav Starushchenko in the next issue of the project “Samohvalov asks”.
“Approximately 1.5 million citizens have the right to be honored at the National Military Memorial Cemetery,” said Starushchenko.
According to him, the cemetery is currently designed for 150,000 burials, but there are no plans to close it after the end of the war.
“Currently, the cemetery is designed for 150,000 burials – 100,000 of them by the traditional method and 50,000 by columbarium burial. This cemetery will not stop working after our victory. There is a whole list of people who can be honored on it. And it is not only those who are now fighting and will die during a large-scale aggression. After this war ends, the majority of military personnel who will become civilians, having the status of a participant in hostilities, will have the right to be buried in this cemetery for life,” Starushchenko said.
He listed who will be buried at the NVMK .
“As of now, all combatants, full knights of the orders of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, “For Courage”, Princess Olga (for women), persons with disabilities, if it occurred during a full-scale aggression, representatives of all law enforcement agencies, can be buried at the cemetery. who represented Ukraine, in particular the UN mission since 1991,” Starushchenko noted.
He clarified that military burials in other cemeteries of the country will not be included in the single National Military Memorial Complex.
“The law does not provide for merging with municipal or communal cemeteries. Military personnel can only be reburied at the National Military Memorial Cemetery. Already formed cemeteries will not become part of the National Military Cemetery,” Starushchenko noted.
As reported, in December 2023 the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the creation and operation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery.
