Longevity at 75 % depends on the lifestyle a person leads. You can increase your life expectancy by simply changing some habits. In particular, you should give up smoking and alcohol, start eating right, and pay attention to the amount of water you drink per day.
Since water is the main chemical component of the body and makes up about 60% of the body weight, it should be preferred over other drinks. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that water helps the body maintain a normal body temperature, hydrates the joints, protects the spinal cord and removes waste. In addition, it improves memory, digestion and blood circulation, maintains skin health and removes toxins.
“Everyone needs to drink a different amount of water a day,” said nutritionists Juliette Callow and Sarah Brewer. According to them, daily fluid needs depend on weight, age, gender, activity level and climate. It is recommended for women to drink about two liters of water every day, and for men – two and a half.
“For most of us, about a fifth of the liquid in the diet comes from products such as milk, soup, stewed meat , yogurts, fruits and vegetables,” experts said. “Thus, if we get 20% of water from food, then women need to drink 1.6 liters, and men – 2 liters of liquid. It's about six to eight glasses,” they added.
Water has been proven to significantly reduce the risk of various diseases and even some forms of cancer. In addition, it provides the necessary level of cellular hydration, which in itself leads to a longer and healthier life.
At the same time, experts have warned that drinking too much liquid can lead to hyponatremia. In the absence of treatment, the condition can be life-threatening, nutritionists concluded.
