Nutritionists from the USA listed foods and vitamins, the deficiency or excess of which threatens a person with fainting or even the development of dementia. Experts call for the most careful treatment of sugar.

Experts note that the functions of the brain largely depend on the level of sugar in the blood, since glucose serves as the main fuel for the body. An excess of sweets threatens the release of insulin, which prevents access to the brain of a number of amino acids, with the exception of tryptophan. The latter transforms melatonin into a sleep hormone and can plunge an individual into a “carbohydrate coma”.

Giving up carbohydrates completely is also dangerous, as it threatens unstable blood sugar levels and hypoglycemia. Among the symptoms are “brain fog”, confusion of consciousness and even short-term fainting.

Alcohol abuse does not affect the ability of the brain to function normally. Over time, due to alcohol, the content of neurotransmitters in the brain is disturbed, they are responsible for the interaction between the cells of the main organ of the central nervous system. There is a risk that a person will experience memory loss and brain damage after a night out.

The brain consumes up to 20% of the body's energy, so it suffers when it is lacking. If you skip meals, the body will go into a compensatory mode to ensure the balance of a safe level of sugar in the blood.

This can be manifested by lethargy, excessive excitement, inability to concentrate. At the same time, you should not eat during work or other activities, as this leads to over- or under-eating. Vitamin B12 protects nerve cells and helps produce neurotransmitters. Its deficiency causes confusion, memory impairment, depression, and mental retardation. In the long term, this threatens with irreversible nerve damage.

Diets with a high content of saturated fats are also called the worst enemy of the brain by nutritionists. They can lead to impaired cognitive abilities or their impairment in those suffering from mental illness.

Such a diet threatens complications in the brain, disrupting intracellular signaling and gene expression. A person has anxiety, depressive behavior, the level of inflammatory cytokines increases.
